Goodwill of Orange County Opens Retail Store and Donation Center in Placentia on Friday,
Sept. 21
--Free $10 Gift Card to First 50 Shoppers; Chance to Win an iPad Tablet--
SANTA ANA, Calif. – Sept. 19, 2012 – People who live and work in Placentia will be introduced to a whole new option in fashionable bargain shopping on Friday, Sept. 21, as Goodwill of Orange County opens a retail store and donation center at 1101 E. Imperial Hwy., Placentia, CA, 92780. The public is invited to attend the grand opening ceremony at 9:00 a.m., where city and chamber officials will be on hand to cut the ribbon for Goodwill’s 21st store in Orange County.
“We expect a very large crowd for this opening,” said Corrine Allen, vice president, retail operations, Goodwill of Orange County. “We typically have shoppers lined up and waiting a few hours before the new store opens, and with the free $10 gift cards for the first 50 people to arrive and additional 25 percent off all orange tagged items, we predict it will be even busier. Shoppers may also enter for a chance to win an iPad® Tablet. One iPad Tablet will be given away at 9pm on both Friday and Saturday. No purchase is necessary, but it will be hard to resist all the great deals. As people are still finishing school clothes shopping, many on a tight budget, our new store will be quite the lucky find.”
This is the first Goodwill store to open in Placentia, and it will have everything from fashions for the whole family, electronics, computer equipment, toys, books, house wares, furniture, and unique home accents. Goodwill attendants will gratefully accept your donations of gently used items during store hours at the donation drop-off center, at the back of the building.
Goodwill’s 21 stores in Orange County and the online store, shopgoodwill.com, generate revenue to fund Goodwill’s job skills training and career development programs for people facing barriers to employment. Last year, Goodwill transformed gently used clothing and other items into education, training and employment services for more than 10,000 local men and women.
According to Allen, people shop at Goodwill for any number of reasons. Some are working parents and their families stretching their budget to cover all their needs. Others include vintage hunters seeking retro fashions, designers looking for interesting antiques and collectibles, while others make a business out of sorting through records, books and other items to find resalable goods.
“Thrifting is fun and it’s cheap — and it’s also a guilt-free shopping, since it generates funds for a wide array of human services, as well as keeping usable goods out of landfills to provide a few more years of utility,” said Allen. “Many of our shoppers have relied on Goodwill for its great prices, but they also understand that we are helping some of the most underserved members of our community.”
“Everyone knows that Goodwill is a great place to shop and to donate used items, but Goodwill of Orange County is much more—Goodwill is a business with a charitable mission. Every purchase adds up to serving more people who want to work, but just need a hand up. It’s inspiring to know that every purchase you make truly does help support services that help people get and keep jobs while finding purpose, pride and dignity.”
