Our Mission is to provide people with disabilities and other barriers
the opportunity to achieve their highest levels of personal and economic
independence. By creating a place for them to improve their health and
well-being, we help fulfill our mission.
What we Offer:
A state-of-the-art fitness center for people with disabilities, set to open in 2008.
More than 15,000 square feet of space, specialized equipment and energizing design.
Who We Serve:
Adults and children living with spinal cord injuries, stroke, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, post polio syndrome, amputation, autism, Lou Gehrig's disease, brain injury, and other disabilities.
Why:
Exercise is an activity many enjoy, people with disabilities should have the same opportunity to improve their health and stretch their abilities.
No fitness center in Orange County currently serves people with disabilities other than facilities designed for short-term rehabilitation.
There is a critical time when exercise is vital to avoid secondary health conditions.
Conventional fitness centers do not provide accessibility, the appropriate equipment, or qualified staff.
What we need:
Your strongest muscle, your heart. The Goodwill Fitness Center Campaign has set a minimum fundraising goal of $6 million.
In collaboration with Spinal Cord Injury Special Fund, the capital campaign funds will be used to purchase a facility, renovate the building, and buy adaptive equipment designed specifically for people with disabilities. The campaign will also fund three years of operating income to provide time to build sustainable support.
