Goodwill of Orange County Mission:

Our Mission is to provide people with disabilities and other barriers the opportunity to achieve their highest levels of personal and economic independence. By creating a place for them to improve their health and well-being, we help fulfill our mission.

What we Offer:

• A state-of-the-art fitness center for people with disabilities, set to open in 2008.
• More than 15,000 square feet of space, specialized equipment and energizing design.

Who We Serve:

• Adults and children living with spinal cord injuries, stroke, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, post polio syndrome, amputation, autism, Lou Gehrig's disease, brain injury, and other disabilities.

Why:

• Exercise is an activity many enjoy, people with disabilities should have the same opportunity to improve their health and stretch their abilities.
• No fitness center in Orange County currently serves people with disabilities other than facilities designed for short-term rehabilitation.
• There is a critical time when exercise is vital to avoid secondary health conditions.
• Conventional fitness centers do not provide accessibility, the appropriate equipment, or qualified staff.

• Your strongest muscle, your heart. The Goodwill Fitness Center Campaign has set a minimum fundraising goal of $6 million.
• In collaboration with Spinal Cord Injury Special Fund, the capital campaign funds will be used to purchase a facility, renovate the building, and buy adaptive equipment designed specifically for people with disabilities. The campaign will also fund three years of operating income to provide time to build sustainable support.
