Getting to know Goodwill of OC’s Program Director of Community Based Services Kathi Millett.
Name: Kathi Millett
Title: Program Director of Community Based Services
Years working at Goodwill of OC: 27 years
What is your favorite part about working at Goodwill?
My favorite part about working at Goodwill is waking up every morning to go to a job that I love! Watching the participants flourish by gaining valuable social and work skills is very rewarding. I am also very blessed to work with staff who are passionate and committed to Goodwill’s mission.
What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time I love to spend time with my family, especially my one year old granddaughter. I also enjoy gardening, home improvement projects and watching football and baseball.
What is your favorite Goodwill memory?
After 27 years, I have many memories, so choosing one is very difficult. Memories are made here everyday. One moment that stands out to me is watching the interaction between a young man with Autism, who prefers not to have close contact with other individuals, but has built such a special bond with his job coach. This young man will initiate hugs and handshakes and smiles brightly as soon as he sees his coach enter the room. Moments like that are why I love my job!
What is your hidden talent?
I’m not sure it’s a hidden talent, however I am far better at completing home improvement projects and home repair than I am with cooking or baking!
To me, Goodwill means…
Hope, opportunity, acceptance and independence.
