Getting to know Goodwill of OC’s Program Manager with Employment WORKS Richard Silbas.
Name: Richard Silbas
Title: Program Manager with Employment WORKS Richard Silbas
Years working at Goodwill of OC: Completing 10 years in April 2018
What is your favorite part about working at Goodwill?
I have a deep passion for non-profit organizations. The work piloted out of our small yet mighty program is what brings about my daily determination. Working in a team with like-minded individuals to help change lives through the power of work while instilling a sense of integrity and motivation for those whom we serve is a great reward in of itself.
What do you like to do in your free time?
First and foremost, I’m a husband to the best wife a person could ever have. Having 2 beautiful precious children ages 6 and 10 keeps the both of us on our toes, constantly. I’m also a coach to my son in our nearby Little League where I also play a role as a board member to a little over 400 registered ball players ranging from 3-13 year olds and their families. Coaching has giving me an outlet and has allowed me to teach to children some basic life skills and teamwork.
What is your favorite Goodwill memory?
My favorite memory of Goodwill is when I get a chance to share the many services provided to our community within our Human Services department. Because most people still only see us as a retail entity, witnessing their reaction when telling someone of all the wondrous work in our Human Services department and the individuals is always a joy to witness and is something that never gets old.
What is your hidden talent?
I hold a master’s degree in counseling psychology as a Marriage and Family therapist and provide one-on-one therapy to family members (children and adults) of a local non-profit organization.
To me, Goodwill means…
An organization that provides exceptional service to all individuals.
