In today’s edition of Job Match Q&A, we have the pleasure of introducing you to Hugo.

Hugo partnered with Goodwill of Orange County’s Employment WORKS team and began his journey towards fulfilling work by volunteering at the Orange County Food Bank.

1) What is your first name, where do you work/volunteer, and what is your job title?

Hugo F. Mendez and I volunteer at the OC Food Bank for the pack a box position.

2) What was your biggest barrier to getting back to work/volunteer?

My mental health and not knowing where to get support.

3) How did Goodwill Employment WORKS help you get into volunteering and maintain your position?

Found a volunteer site, provided transportation, and assisted me with my volunteer tasks.

4) What is it like being a Pack a Box volunteer at your volunteer site?

Good, I enjoyed being productive and helping out.

5) How is volunteering improving your quality of life today?

Having something to look forward to.

6) What is your final message to anyone contemplating getting back to work?

Try your best and don’t give up.
