Today’s Job Match Q&A, we get to meet Jeffery!
Discover how Jeffery became a Caregiver with the help of Goodwill OC Employment Works.
- What is your first name, employer, and job title?
My name is Jeffrey, and I work at Amada Senior Care as a Caregiver.
- What is your biggest barrier to getting back to work?
I felt that I had a weak employment history, a large gap in employment, and problems with speaking good English.
- How did Goodwill OC Employment WORKS help you get back to work and keep your job?
Eworks helped me figure out what jobs I was qualified for and what jobs I would like to apply for. I enjoyed the job market data I received.
I also enjoyed receiving job search training and learning how to use Indeed. I liked all the tips provided by my Employment Specialist on how to find jobs and how to interview with prospective employers. I also liked the mock interview training and the way it taught me how to act and speak.
Lastly, I liked the constant encouragement and follow-up from the staff. The stories the Employment Specialist shared about personal experiences helped me build confidence. The staff showed me that I had the necessary skills to go out and find a job.
- What is it like being a caregiver?
Sometimes it is difficult to communicate with clients because I do not speak English very well, but I enjoy helping people.
- How has working improved your quality of life?
I have learned a lot. I did not know about the needs of “Baby Boomers.” I was surprised at how much this aging population needs assistance. I have lost some weight because of all the exercise I get at work. It is nice to make money. Having a job now will make it easier to go back to college.
- What is your final message to anyone contemplating getting back to work?
You have to be patient when looking for a job. The more you interview, the more you learn about how to improve your interview skills. Do not talk yourself out of applying for jobs.
Everyone has life experiences that match a job. Know who you are and what you can do, because there is a fit (job) out there for you. Do not rush, just keep at it, and you will find a job that is right for you.
