ORANGE COUNTY, Calif., February 9, 2021 – Goodwill of Orange County has partnered with Southern California Gas Co. (SoCalGas) to help its customers and team members save money and energy this year.

The partnership brings information about SoCalGas’s Energy Savings Assistance (ESA) program and California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) bill discount program right to the hands of Orange County Goodwill shoppers and employees – two significant ways for qualifying customers to save on their monthly gas bill and no-cost energy-efficient home improvements.

“This is a meaningful partnership that we know will make a profound impact on our Goodwill team members and their families, and many of community members who shop at our stores,” said Nicole Suydam, President and CEO, Goodwill of Orange County. “We are proud to partner with SoCalGas on this initiative in a time when it is needed most to make sure every qualifying customer is signed up and utilizing these significant savings opportunities.”

As of this month, informational flyers for both programs are now available at 10 participating Goodwill of OC locations, determined by the areas within the county with the greatest need, and throughout Goodwill of Orange County’s office facilities and employee portals.

The ESA program offers qualifying customers the opportunity to receive home improvements that help conserve energy, reduce natural gas use and enhance safety, health and comfort – all at no cost. Improvements may include clothes washer, water heater and/or furnace replacement, attic insulation, door weather-stripping and more. The program helps customers save money on energy – up to $700 annually.

The CARE assistance program helps pay utility bills. Qualifying customers can receive a 20% discount on their SoCalGas bill each month, and an average of $145 over two years in the program.

To qualify for these assistance programs, the individual or someone in the household must be enrolled in a public assistance program such as Medi-Cal/Medicaid, CalWORKS, CalFresh, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and WIC, or meet income qualifications.

“It is absolutely critical that customers who need financial assistance are aware that help exists.  As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to affect our economy and the job market – assistance programs like CARE and ESA exist to provide bill relief and improve the health, comfort and safety of our customers,” said Brian Prusnek, director of customer programs and assistance at SoCalGas. “We are grateful that Goodwill of Orange County is making information about these programs available in their stores so that we can continue to reach every customer who is in need of these programs.”
