Luis works at Dave & Buster’s in Irvine through Goodwill of Orange County, as part of an innovative pilot program designed to support individuals in working independently while still having access to personalized support. For Luis, this opportunity has been life-changing.
“Every morning, Luis comes to work happy,” says Blanca Ramos, a long-time Skills Trainer with Goodwill OC who has supported Luis for more than a decade. Through one-on-one job coaching, Blanca has helped Luis build confidence, expand his skill set, and grow both personally and professionally.
Today, Luis plays an essential role as an Associate at Dave & Buster’s. His responsibilities include rolling napkins, preparing coffee and tea, vacuuming, cleaning, and assisting with a variety of daily tasks that keep the restaurant running smoothly. Over time, he has learned new duties, adapted to workplace routines, and become a reliable and valued member of the team.
But Luis’s impact goes far beyond completing tasks.
According to Ulises Gonzales, his manager at Dave & Buster’s, Luis sets an example for everyone around him. “Luis is responsible, thoughtful, and a hard worker,” Ulises shares. “He’s a great asset to me and to Dave & Buster’s because he’s always willing to go the extra mile. That’s why we appreciate him so much. Seeing Luis here every day inspires us to do better.”
