When Joanna reflects on her journey, she says that working at Intertwined Inc. has changed her life. But according to the company’s leadership, the impact goes both ways.
Described by founder Katie Webb Brundige as a “game changer,” Joanna has become an essential part of the Intertwined team. In fact, Katie calls her the best thing that happened to the company in 2025.
Before joining Intertwined, Joanna worked at Party City, where she excelled at creating balloon bouquets and bringing joy to customers through her creativity. When the store closed, Joanna faced an uncertain next chapter. That’s when Goodwill of Orange County’s Paid Internship Program helped open a new door by connecting her with an opportunity at Intertwined, a luxury hospitality brand based in Irvine.
Although she was nervous heading into her interview, Joanna took a leap of faith. Today, just one year later, she has grown into a confident, outgoing team member who plays a vital role across the organization.
“I love it here,” Joanna shares. “I love everything about working here. I used to be shy—now I talk to everybody!”
At Intertwined, Joanna’s responsibilities span a wide range of tasks that keep the office and events running smoothly. She supports block management and social media marketing, greets guests, assists with event setup, answers phones, sends emails, and even creates decorations that bring each event to life. Her versatility and positive energy have made her a central figure within the team.
One of Joanna’s favorite experiences is supporting RAD Camp, an annual camp hosted by Intertwined for children and adults with diverse abilities. The event reflects the company’s commitment to inclusion and community, values that Joanna embraces wholeheartedly in her work.
Behind the scenes, Joanna is supported by her dedicated job coach, Vanessa, who has worked alongside her for the past few years. Together, they have helped Joanna build the confidence and skills needed to thrive in a professional environment.
For Intertwined, Joanna’s impact goes beyond her day-to-day contributions.
“Joanna acts as the hub of our company and fosters collaboration among teams,” says Katie. “I encourage others in the hospitality industry to partner with Goodwill of Orange County so they can see the benefits that inclusion truly brings and recognize the value in every individual.”
Joanna’s journey is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when opportunity meets support. Through Goodwill OC’s Paid Internship Program, individuals gain access to meaningful work experiences, while local businesses discover the strength of a more inclusive workforce.
