Santa Ana, Calif. ā€“ February 25, 2021 ā€“ shopgoodwill.com, the first and largest ecommerce auction platform created and operated by a nonprofit, has surpassed $1 billion in sales.

Half of the $1 billion sales total was earned in just the last three years; the site had previously announced hitting the $500 million sales mark in September of 2017. Last year, the site saw nearly 22 percent growth in sales over the previous year with $171.3 million in sales.

shopgoodwill.com is receiving more than 21 million unique page views each week, and currently has more than 2.4 million registered customers.

The site brings together the best-donated items from 129 local GoodwillĀ® sellers from across the country. Tens of thousands of items are available for bidding or ā€œbuy it now,ā€ including jewelry, collectibles, art, clothing, authenticated designer apparel and accessories, musical instruments, electronics and more.

Launched by Goodwill of Orange County in 1999, shopgoodwill.com was designed to be an additional funding source, beyond brick-and-mortar thrift stores, to support the nonprofitā€™s mission to help people learn job skills and find and keep employment. Now, more than 20 years later, the site plays a significant role in the Goodwill networkā€™s mission revenue generation.

ā€œThis monumental sales milestone solidifies shopgoodwill.comā€™s place among top online secondhand sites and demonstrates the desire of todayā€™s online shopper to find retail with meaning,ā€ said Nicole Suydam, president and CEO of Goodwill of Orange County, the Goodwill organization that owns and operates shopgoodwill.com. ā€œPurchases made on the site support workforce development programs, job placement services, and educational opportunities for individuals in communities across the country. This $1 billion in sales represents millions of lives changed.ā€

For the 129 Goodwill organizations that list and sell items on the site, more than 90 percent of an itemā€™s final sale price goes back to its local community to support local job seekersā€™ specific needs. Last year, six Goodwill sellers topped more than $5 million in annual sales, and 48 Goodwill sellers earned more than $1 million.

The announcement comes in conjunction with the siteā€™s investment in the modernization of both the user and seller experience. shopgoodwill.com will debut refreshed branding, dynamic usability, enhanced navigation and a mobile app by the end of this year.
